On the night of October 1st, on the Las Vegas Strip , a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Hotel, onto a large crowd of people below who were attending the route 91 Harvest Music Festival. On stage at the time was Jason Aldean a country music singer, it was one of the closing acts of the night. So far 59 people have died from their wounds and over 500 people have been injured from the attack.
The gunman who has been identified as Stephen Paddock, a 64 year old retiree from Nevada, shot himself dead before police could break into the hotel room from which he was firing.
Islamic State have claimed responsibility but it is highly unlikely Stephen was affiliated to them. There is much speculation as to the “whats” and the “whys” but it is too early to tell, it’s just speculation. If this is a secret service operation to achieve a political goal such as the restriction on the use of firearms, this will become more obvious in the coming weeks when examining the media reaction to the event and the agenda they attempt to push. Or perhaps he was just a lone madman, which in itself seems equally bizarre. Whether its an Islamist suicide bomber driving his VBIED into a crowd of people into a market in Iraq or Syria or a gunman shooting into a crowd….the question must be asked, how does it come to be that any human being can bring themselves to do such things?
